Parent and Carers

Firstly thank you for supporting your son or daughter in making the choice to continue their education, post 16, at South Sefton College. It is with parental and carer help, support and guidance that our students flourish and so let us take this opportunity to welcome you to our college.

If our motto is ‘Where Aspiration Meets Opportunity’ then our students can only flourish with your support. We welcome parents and carers into the college and hope to see you throughout your son’s or daughter’s time here. As with all educational establishments we have parent/ carer consultation evenings, two per year for each year group, and very much hope you will be able to attend both. We also report on student performance, sending home tracking information for both year groups, twice a year. Having four points of parental/ carer contact each year means we are able to sustain a dialogue with you so you remain informed about achievement and with your son or daughter we can work collectively towards their academic success.

If we have concerns about students we will always endeavour to involve parents and carers, inviting you into college where there are issues and maintaining contact to ensure your child fulfils their potential at college and gets the very best from their time here.

Being a teenager isn’t always the easiest of times and the college takes its commitment to pastoral support seriously. Every student has a personal tutor, and a Head of Year, and we pride ourselves on knowing our students and working with them throughout their time with us. In turn we rely on your support to ensure attendance and punctuality are robust and all absences are verified through a parental phone call at the first point of absence. Furthermore, we would strongly advise against the booking of family holidays in term time as any sustained absence is detrimental to student progress, especially with external exams taking place in the May of the first year.

Throughout the year the college holds numerous events to which you are always welcome. We hold events focusing on Higher Education and Finance; Arts, Drama, Awards Evenings and Christmas Celebrations. Whenever we run a trip overseas we will always invite you into college so you are fully versed in all aspects of the visit.

Sefton College is here to serve its community; to provide every opportunity for the young people in the area to excel academically and fulfil their potential and we wholeheartedly welcome parent and carer involvement in making this happen. As ever if there is anything you wish to know further do not hesitate to contact us.
